The Class 4A Shiloh Christian Lady Saints used a balanced inside-out attack to squeak past Calico Rock 55-48 in the consolation round of the Ultimate Ford Basketball Tournament Dec. 29 at The Hanger in Mountain Home.
Lindsey Roe, Shiloh Christian's post player, turned offensive rebounds into points on her way to a game-high 17 points for the Lady Saints. And on the perimeter, Cheyenne Baker tossed in a game-high four treys en route to 12 points for Shiloh.
But it wasn't an easy victory for the Lady Saints.
Calico Rock made sure of that.
Brittany Fountain (10 points) drilled a triple for the Lady Pirates' first points of the game.
The Lady Saints hit the offensive glass hard in the first period and pulled in front 9-5 before Calico Rock closed the period strong.
Emily Johnson (nine points) racked up four straight points and then Karli Gillihan bombed in a 3-ball to knot the game at 11-all.
A free throw by Stephanie Wedding pushed Shiloh Christian on top 12-11 after one.
The Lady Saints opened the second period in a full-court press that bothered the Lady Pirates a bit and helped Shiloh build an 18-11 advantage.
Johnson got free for back-to-back buckets and Kaitlyn Fry hit a layup to edge Calico Rock within one, 18-17.
Brooke McCurley (five points) torched the net for a long-range triple near the minute-and-a-half of the frame, sending the teams to intermission with the Lady Pirates down by two, 22-20.
Then, Taylor Cox got cooking in the third period.
She blasted a 3-pointer and then proceeded to rip off Calico Rock's next 10 points, giving the Lady Pirates a 32-31 lead with 2:50 left in the third. Cox led Calico Rock with 12 points.
Baker also racked up a pair of 3-pointers in the third for Shiloh Christian, but a layup from Fountain with 10 ticks left on the clock gave Calico Rock a 37-36 lead after three.
But it was more from Baker early in the fourth.
She hit back-to-back treys to push the Lady Saints in front to stay.
Savannah Skidmore (four points) hit a long 3 with 13 seconds left, but Shiloh Christian hung on to win 55-48.
Sloan Lively finished with two points for the Lady Pirates.
In the tourney's opening-round Dec. 28, the Lady Pirates fell to the defending Class 6A state champs from Watson Chapel 55-25.
The Lady Wildcats led 7-6 after one, 24-12 at the half and 45-17 after three periods of play.
Gillihan scored nine points for the Lady Pirates, while Johnson and McCurley had four points each. Fountain, Cox, Fry and Brandy Deloach scored two points apiece.
