Meeting for the second time in a tournament field this season, the end result was the same as the Cave City Cavewomen topped the Salem Lady Greyhounds 47-28 in the semi-final round of the Izard County Tournament, Jan. 22, at Harold Ray Jeffery Gymnasium in Calico Rock.
The victory earned the Cavewomen a spot opposite the host Calico Rock Lady Pirates in the championship game Jan. 29.
Just like when they met in the Lyon College Tournament earlier this season, Salem got off to a good start before Cave City found its stride and pulled ahead in the Izard County Tourney.
Jessica Hall had a monster afternoon for the Cavewomen, leading the charge with a game-high 29 points.
The Lady Hounds led 7-4 after the first period, using an old-fashioned 3-point play from Ashley Brooks (four points) and layup by Whitney Rose to close the frame strong.
The tight battle continued in the second period, with Cave City moving in front 12-8, thanks to an 8-1 run keyed by six points from Hall.
Whitney Ward hit a late trey and Bethany Pate (four points) broke free for a hoop in the paint late for Salem, but a pair of charity tosses from Hall sent the teams to the half with the Cavewomen clinging to a 16-15 advantage.
The momentum and the scoreboard switched to Cave City's side in the second half.
Hall blasted in nine of Cave City's first 12 points in the third, helping the Cavewomen establish control with a 28-15 lead.
Salem's first points of the third didn't come until the 1:50 mark on a jumper from Pate.
Outscoring the Lady Hounds 18-4 in the third, Cave City took a 34-19 cushion into the final frame.
Rachel Roebuck (seven points) connected on a conventional 3-point play early in the fourth, Rachel McKenzie (five points) hit a baseline shot, Hall racked up six straight points and Brooklyn Brinkley (six points) capped a period-opening 13-0 run with a pair of free throws that put the game on ice for the Cavewomen.
Savannah Henley (five points) ended the contest with a deuce and triple for Salem, but Cave City advanced to the tournament finals with a 47-28 victory.
Jamie Bell finished with four points for Salem.
Paige Hollis, Abby Blevins and Bailey Lamar had two points apiece for the Lady Greyhounds.
