If a team was ever clicking on all cylinders, it was the Alton Comets Feb. 3.

Jumping out to a huge first-period lead, the homestanding Comets (7-9) rolled past the visiting Bakersfield Lions 69-34 in non-conference hoops action.

The Comets came out smoking on their home court and set the tone for the following three quarters of play.

When the smoke cleared after the first period, Alton led the struggling Lions 21-8 after one.

Bakersfield did get outstanding play from Corey Lamb (seven points), Taylor Bales (eight points) and Austin Lair (11 points), but the hot hands of Alton's Kalon Honeycutt (16 points) and Zach Roberts (14 points) pushed the Alton lead to 37-23 at the half and 52-32 to end three periods of play.

The Comets shifted into high gear for the final eight minutes, scoring 17 points while holding the visiting Lions to only two points, leading to a 69-34 Alton Comet victory.

Skylar Chronister finished with 10 points for the Comets.

The junior varsity Comets pummeled the Bakersfield JV team 64-16 to start the evening.
