If there was any doubt as to why the Calico Rock Lady Pirates are currently stationed at number two in the Class 1A ranks, all one had to do was witness the first half of the 1A-2 North District Tournament championship game, Feb. 18, at Norfork.
The Lady Pirates (30-5) came out guns a blazing and didn't slow down until they had wiped out the Hillcrest Screamin' Lady Eagles 57-31.
Calico Rock now adds the district tournament trophy to its undefeated run through the conference's regular season.

Calico Rock's swarming defense kept Hillcrest out of any kind of offensive rhythm, with often resulted in steals and layups for the Lady Pirates.
A Kaitly Fry (five points) triple extended Calico Rock's cushion to 21-8 midway into the second and the Lady Pirates put their foot on the gas petal, closing the frame with 11 unanswered points.
Johnson had six of those points, while Sloan Lively (eight points) added a long 3-pointer right before the buzzer, sending the teams to the break with Calico Rock in front 32-10.
Things didn't get any better for Hillcrest in the third, with the Lady Pirates maintaining their large lead with a 49-20 margin after three.
Savannah Skidmore tallied 10 points for Calico Rock, while Brittany Fountain added one point.
In the semis Feb. 17, Calico Rock knocked off Norfork 42-22.
Skidmore tallied 11 points for the Lady Pirates, while Taylor Cox and Johnson had nine points apiece.
