According to Webster's, dominance is the fact or state of commanding, controlling or prevailing over all others.
It's also the way the Calico Rock Lady Pirates took care of business in the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.
The Lady Pirates, ranked second in Class 1A, simply dominated the proceedings in the regional tourney, winning three games by an average margin of 30.3 points per game.
The latest team to fall victim to the Lady Pirates' wrath was the Crowley's Ridge Academy Lady Falcons.
Calico Rock (33-5) dismantled CRA 64-38 in the regional championship game Feb. 26.
But to their credit, the Lady Falcons did make Calico Rock work hard, at least in the first half of the title game.
The Lady Pirates had problems getting the ball into the bucket, missing shots from point blank and from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half.
CRA didn't help itself out any by turning the ball over 11 times in the first two periods and going just eight-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Taylor Cox (10 points) hit Calico Rock's last six points of the first period, helping the Lady Pirates build a 13-5 lead after one.
Then the Lady Pirates went into a scoring drought.
The Lady Falcons reeled off the first nine points of the second period to pull even at 13-all.
Emily Johnson (11 points) righted the ship for the Lady Pirates with a slicing hoop at the 3:12 mark of the second, starting a period-ending 12-4 run for her team.
Brittany Fountain hit a layup, Mattie Jo Bransum tacked on a free throw and Brooke McCurley (17 points) put the exclamation point on the first half with a long trey that sent the teams to the half with Calico Rock on top 25-17.
And it was all downhill from there for the Lady Pirates.
Calico Rock really got back on track in the second half, moving in front 46-23 after three by outscoring CRA 21-6 in the frame.
Karli Gillihan finished with 10 points for the Lady Pirates, while Sloan Lively had eight.
Kaitlyn Fry netted three and Savannah Skidmore two.
Emily Johnson was named the Regional Tournament MVP.
McCurley, Gillihan, Fountain and Cox were all named to the All-Regional Tournament team for the Lady Pirates.
In the semis Feb. 25, Calico Rock made short of Bay, dropping the Lady Yellowjackets 60-31.
The Lady Pirates hammered Bay from the start, opening the contest on a 12-0 run. Calico Rock then turned that into a 21-5 advantage after one and into a 39-21 lead at the half.
Johnson had 12 points for Calico Rock, while Gillihan netted 11 and Fountain 10.
Cox finished with eight, Fry had seven, McCurley five and Brandy Deloach three. Skidmore and Branscum logged two points apiece.
The Lady Pirates slammed Black Rock 58-22 Feb. 23 in opening-round action. Fountain tossed in 13 points, while Johnson had 10. McCurley, Cox and Fry logged eight points each.
Gillihan had four, while Lively finished with three. Deloach and Kimberly Lancaster posted two points apiece.
