They slipped past Trumann 7-6 the day before, but in the opening-round of the 3-4A District Tournament April 30 at Valley View, the Lady Wildcats had a bit of payback for the Highland. They topped the Lady Rebels 7-2, ending Highland's softball season in the process.
Highland got on the scoreboard first, as Whitney Herum started the Lady Rebs' first inning at the plate with a hit to left.
After swiping second base, Herum came around to score on a base hit by Lindsey Goodwin that staked Highland to a 1-0 lead.
It looked like the Lady Rebs might add to that lead in the second, when Kristianna Lynxwiler led off the frame with a double to right. Amber Fischer followed with a base-on-balls, but Trumann starter Hannah Walters retired the next three Highland hitters in order to keep the score at 1-0, Lady Rebs.
Trumann broke through with three runs in the home-half of the third inning.
Walters hit a shot past third that scored Sarah Halfacre, followed by a two-RBI double off the bat off Sammi Jo Williams that edged the Lady Wildcats in front 3-1 after three innings of play.
Highland bounced back with a run in the top of the fourth, as a fielder's choice from Shelby Williams brought in Lynxwiler for the Lady Rebs' second run of the game.
But in the bottom of the fourth, Trumann opened up some breathing room with four big runs.
With the bases full of Lady Wildcats, Walters hit a double to left that plated Trumann's first three runs in the fourth. Williams then hit a ball past third that drove in Walters, giving the Lady Wildcats a 7-2 advantage.
The Lady Rebels got a pair of runners on base in the fifth, but they were left stranded and Trumann ended the afternoon with a five-run win over the Lady Rebels.
Haley Hall took the loss, giving up nine hits, while walking three and fanning one.
Walters gave up six hits and struck out six, while walking three.
