With an 8-6 win over Calico Rock in the championship game of the 1A-2 West District Tournament at Viola City Park April 28, the Viola Lady Longhorns added the district tourney title to their perfect run through the conference ranks this spring.
The Lady Horns scored twice in the third and twice in the fourth to stake claim to a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Pirates scored a run in the fifth, but Viola put the pressure on Calico Rock by moving ahead 8-1 in the sixth.
The Lady Pirates responded with a furious five-run rally in the top of the seventh, but the homestanding Lady Longhorns held on to win by two runs.
Kiersten Moore pitched the win for Viola, giving up five earned runs, while fanning eight and walking four in seven innings.
Moore, Andrea Duvall, Lindsay Walker and Ashley Newton all doubled and had hits each in the contest.
In opening-round action, Viola hammered Norfork 11-1.
The Lady Longhorns plated nine runs in the first inning to take control of the Lady Panthers.
Moore tossed four innings of no-hit ball, striking out 10 and walking a pair in the process.
Leslie Shrable smacked a triple and drove in three runs, while Karlee Dockins had two hits and two ribbies.
Andrea Duvall and Kelsey Amberger had two hits apiece for Viola.
