Heavy rains cause track collapse

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Two engines and two rail cars derailed in Izard County on Wednesday, April 25. It appears the bank, along the White River at Twin Creek, gave way after being saturated by days of rainfall. The Izard County Department of Emergency Management surveyed the scene and booms were installed to contain diesel fuel which spilled into the White River. Missouri and Northern Arkansas Railroad crews later arrived to begin the clean up, but repairing the broken line is expected be a difficult process.
