When the Class 1A Region 2 All-Tournament team was announced, it was no shock that Viola's Kiersten Moore was selected as the tourney MVP.
Especially after her performance on the mound in the championship game against the homestanding Izard County Lady Cougars.
Moore pitched the Lady Longhorns to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Lady Cougars May 9 at the Cougar Sports Complex in Brockwell.
Dialed in from the start, Moore had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning. After retiring the first two batters in the top of the frame, Izard County's Anglel Engelhardt finally broke up Moore's no-hitter with a single.
Moore finished the game with two walks and seven strikeouts, after giving up one hit.
Izard County's (22-7) Molly Taylor was saddled with the loss, fanning three, while walking three and allowing four hits in three-and-two-thirds innings. Stephanie Shrable came on in relief and worked two-and-a-third, giving up one hit and one run, while walking a pair and fanning three.
Viola scored the game's first run in the second, when Michaela Thompson started things off with a base-on-balls and later came around to score on a base hit by Ashley Newton.
The Lady Longhorns (24-3) moved on top 3-0 in the fourth, thanks to a two-run single by Karlee Dockins.
Viola tacked on one final run in the home-half of the sixth, as Alex Duncan singled and then came home on a hit by Leslie Shrable.
Shrable had two hits and an RBI for Viola, while Dockins drove in two runs on one hit.
Duncan and Newton both hit safely and drove in runs for the Lady Horns.
In the opening-round of the Class 1A State Tournament, hosted by Armorel, Viola knocked off Wonder View 13-1, while Izard County fell to Scranton 12-7 May 14.
