Hardy woman tries out for American Idol

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Lauren Gray, 22, of Hardy auditioned for American Idol on Tuesday, June 28.

Gray, the daughter of Debbie and Mike Gray, who own Petals and Lace and Creekside Lofts in Hardy, auditioned with the Adele song, "One and Only."

In 2005, Gray and her family were on their way to Memphis to audition for the show when Hurricane Katrina caused the auditions to be cancelled.

Nationwide, young men and women have lined up for hours for the chance to audition for the American Idol judges.

According to the American Idol web site, singers get thirty seconds to impress the preliminary judges with their song. If they are allowed to sing the song in it's entirety, then they move on to the next round. Those who don't make it in the first thirty seconds are sent home.

Lauren made it through the first round and was going to move on in the auditions as of Tuesday, the 28th.

All of us at Areawide Media wish Lauren the best of luck!
