Bolt Memorial celebrates eighth edition

One hundred and sixteen players competed on 29 teams to celebrate the 8th annual Tommy Bolt Memorial on June 25 at the South Golf Course in Cherokee Village.

Teams included local players, along with those from a large number of communities throughout Arkansas and the surrounding states.

This year, financial support included 17 major sponsors and 35 tee hole sponsors.

Among the major sponsors were hole-in-one sponsors: Cox Powersports of Highland, MidLake Marine of Cherokee Village and Freedom Ford of Melbourne. Bronze level sponsors included FNBC, Hometown Radio, Liberty Bank and Spring River Chronicle.

Results were as follows:

Championship Flight

1st: Russ Stokes, Randy Curler, Pat Kimball, Pete Reynolds:57; 2nd: David Keylor, Gordon McCain, Chris Clem, Nathan Circle: 58; 3rd: Jim and Jan Haney, Lowell and Charleen Parten:58

First Flight

1st: Charli Steed, Butch Steed, Bobbi Jo Cooper, David Pride:62; 2nd: Larry Kissee, John Kissee, Wade Paul, Tyler French:62; 3rd: Fred Holzhauer, Jim Stovall, Jack Williams, Kerry Wayne Evans:62.

Second Flight

1st: Justin Juline, Allen Brinkman, Greg Shannon, Tim Andrea:65; 2nd: JD Gleghorn, Mike Gleghorn, Tuffy Smith, Marvin Maguffee:65; 3rd: Joey Hall, Blake Medlock, Ross Carter, Steve Powell:65

Gift Certificates for the South Course Golfshop were awarded to the top three places within each flight: 1st place: $300; 2nd place: $240; and 3rd place: $180, for a total of $2,160.

"Hole" Prize Competitions were again held on all 18 holes. $20 cash prize was awarded for the following contests: Longest Drive Men Only, Longest Drive Women Only, Longest Drive Men & Women, Longest Putt made, Closest to the Pin, Closest to the Pin 2nd Shot, and Closest to the Pin 3rd Shot.

The event benefits Fountain Place, a senior independent living Christian retirement center in Cherokee Village.

Though not all returns are yet in, it is estimated that net proceeds of the tournament will be over $6,000.
