Attempted child abduction under investigation

Friday, July 15, 2011 ~ Updated 5:03 PM

Arkansas State Troopers and deputies of the Fulton County Sheriff's Department are searching for a suspect who they believe may have attempted to abduct a child near Viola July 14.

Two nine-year-old girls have told Special Agents of the State Police Criminal Investigation Division that a man attempted to lure them to a truck when he stopped along U.S. Highway 62 near a home where the girls had been playing together.

An adult female inside the home tells investigators she heard screams from the children and went outside where she witnessed a man walking away from the children toward the truck.

The suspect is described as being a heavyset white-male, bushy red hair and possibly without several teeth. The truck driven by the suspect is described as a mid-1990's Toyota, blue in color with a silver or white stripe along the bottom of the vehicle.

Anyone who may recognize the description of the suspect, the vehicle, or who may have seen a vehicle matching this description in the area of Viola or Mountain Home is asked to contact the State Police at Harrison (870) 741-3455 or the Fulton County Sheriff's Department at (870) 895-2601.
