Following in his father's footsteps, farmer Darick Brown and his family of Viola have been named as the District Farm Family of the Year.

Darick's parents, Dennis and Donna Brown, won the title when Darick was a student at Viola High School.

Now, Darick, wife Leesa, and children, Devin, 15, Lakynn, 14, and Dalton, 11, have the designation and are in the running for the state title.

The award is part of the 64-year-old Arkansas Farm Family of the Year Program.

The Browns farm more than 2,300 acres in Fulton County, cut 300-800 acres of fescue yearly, raise about 265 commercial cow/calf pairs and, within the past few years, have begun raising meat goats.

Announcement of the state winner is expected sometime in August.
