A memorial service for J. R. Looney will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cherokee Village, Ark. The church is located at the intersection of Wyatt and Cherokee Road -- the "church with the bright red door."

Born Feb. 24, 1921, in Walnut Ridge, he died June 10, 2011, at Ash Flat Nursing Home.

He was the son of George Looney and Minnie Russell Looney. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, serving in England during World War II, where he met his wife, Phyllis Bolton. He was a retired mail carrier from Osceola, Ark., and was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Cherokee Village.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Looney; a son, Bill Looney of Cherokee Village; and a daughter, Brenda Brewster of Portsmouth, N.H. He also leaves three grandchildren; Sarah Brewster, Kathleen Brewster and James Brewster. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Also surviving are two brothers, two sisters and many nephews and nieces.

There will be a reception following the service in the Parish House of St. Andrew's Church.
