Val Bishop, 89, of Conway, Ark., formerly of Saddle, Ark., was born on Feb. 26, 1922, in Frenchtown, Ark., the son of Ernest Ben and Gratis (Tharp) Bishop. He departed this life on Aug. 1, 2011, in Conway, Ark.

Val was united in marriage to Roberta Madgelene Grissom on Oct. 1, 1941, at Heart, Ark.

He worked for Grand Trunk Railroad in Michigan, was a farmer and was the assessor of Fulton County, Ark., for many years. Val served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He leaves to mourn his passing; wife, Roberta Bishop of Conway, Ark.; one son, Lyle Bishop and wife Arlene of Mountain Home, Ark.; one daughter, Pat Politte and husband Mike of Conway, Ark.; three sisters, Wilma Cochran of Kenosho, Wisc., Ruth Montgomery of Wiseman, Ark., and Corean Shrable of Vidette, Ark.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, four brothers, Clifford, Ray, Marvin and E.G., and one sister, Wanda.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Saddle Cemetery in Saddle, Ark., with Lewis Bishop officiating.

Interment was in the Saddle Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Ark. Pallbearers were Lewis Bishop, David Lambert and Robert Luther.
