Alton Senior Center Director Pam Simpson, right, poses with Alton Bank President Randall Combs and teller Sara Wheeler behind the center's new salad bar on Friday, Aug. 19. Alton Bank employees raised the money during the past year by contributing weekly to a fund set up for local charity efforts. All 14 bank employees participate by paying $2 per week to wear jeans on Fridays at the bank or $3 to also wear tennis shoes to work. Last year, the money helped with items needed by the Oregon County Sheltered Workshop. For the past several years, bank employees also have held a cinnamon roll and apple turnover sale. This spring, proceeds from that sale went to the Alton Volunteer Fire Department. Simpson said the center is pleased to have the salad bar, which is already being put to use. Each year, bank employees decide where to give the charity fund. "This is our way of giving back to the community," Combs said.
