The city of Salem will have its annual fall cleanup beginning Sept. 19.

City trucks will pick up items, on all city streets, that are not normally picked up during weekly trash collection. All items must be at the curb by 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19. City trucks will not pick up items placed at the curb after 8 a.m.

The cleanup effort includes appliances and furniture.

City trucks will not pick up items normally taken by the weekly trash truck. Due to landfill regulations, batteries, oil, tires, hazardous chemicals and electronics, such as television sets and computers, will not be picked up.

Residents must sort their trash. All wood should be placed in one pile, all limbs and related residue in another pile, with other large items piled together, as they are taken to various locations.

Due to time and equipment limits, residents who hire tree trimmers to clean their premises must haul off the residue. Brush may be hauled to the city's compost pile on Highway 395N, west of the VFW building.
