The Highland Elks hosted a veterans fundraiser Sept. 17 to raise money for lap robes for veterans in local nursing homes. Pictured with one of the robes are, from left: John J. Bain, Elks President John Chelstrom and Merilyn Lind.
The Ladies of the Elks donated all of the desserts for the event.
Elk member Merlyn D. Lind organized the fundraiser to help purchase lap robes for veterans in local nursing homes.
Lind and other Elks members visit local nursing homes, and each resident who was a veteran is given lap robes depicting their respective service branch.
Each month, nursing homes gain new veterans and, Lind, a Navy veteran, would like to insure they are each recognized for the service they have provided the country.
Jessie Sparks cooked the meal and was grateful for the help of Liz Walton, Jerry Adamson, Peg Clark, Sandee Butler, Brent Lowe and Jack Lowe.
Lowe also performed a crowd pleasing comedy act.
