Alton schools celebrate with ice cream

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

For the third year, the Alton R-4 Public Schools Foundation sponsored a Hot Dog Supper and Ice Cream from the Spring Dipper during Back to School Night. About 250 people were served in the Elementary School Cafeteria. Board members cooked and served the meal. Pictured is the long line for ice cream and the very large projection screen on the stage area. It is the latest donation to the school from the foundation's special projects fund. Plans are under way for new stage curtains and a similar screen for the high school. Funds raised will go to the special projects fund to meet our new goals. The highlight of the night was special guest "The Cat in the Hat" (also known as Debra Stubblefield Stanton, district bookkeeper), who graduated from Alton High School in 1978. Pictured with her are students Emily and Gavin Howell.
