A 21-year-old Myrtle man died Oct. 1 in an Interstate 44 crash when his truck was clipped by another vehicle.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Jacob Bearden's 2006 Ford pickup was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet pickup driven by Dallas Shearer, 16, of Ash Grove.

The crash happened about a quarter mile east of Mount Vernon in Lawrence County at 7 p.m.

The patrol report said Bearden was in the left lane when Shearer moved into the left lane to pass another vehicle. Shearer's truck hit Bearden's, which then traveled into the median, returned to the roadway and struck the southern bridge rail, vaulting off the bridge and ejecting Bearden.

Bearden was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:02 p.m. by Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin.

Shearer was wearing a seat belt, and suffered minor injuries. Bearden was not buckled, according to the report.
