Salem FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) will host a "Cupcake for a Cure" bake sale during the October 14, 2011 Salem Greyhound football game, selling cupcakes to support breast cancer awareness. All proceeds will go to research to help find a cure for this devastating disease. The Salem Greyhound football team is helping support this cause by wearing pink. We hope to see everyone out supporting our Greyhounds and helping to find a cure for breast cancer.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed among women in the United States this year. An estimated 40,170 women are expected to die from the disease each year. Today, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States. Breast Cancer is a disease that has affected many people in our community.
Health experts say that it is important for women to practice the elements of good breast health. Health care professionals suggest that women: obtain regular mammography screening starting at the age of 40, obtain annual clinical breast exams, perform monthly breast-self exams, and obtain a risk assessment from a physician.
