Calico Rock Museum to take part in Storybook Project

Monday, October 17, 2011

The Calico Rock Museum Foundation has accepted The Storybook Project/Calico Rock as a special project. Because the Foundation is a 501 c 3 organization, all contributions to The Storybook Project will be tax deductible. The Calico Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church is also helping The Storybook Project by providing meeting and storage space.

The goal of The Storybook Project is to encourage reading and to keep inmates connected to their families. Twice a year, the group will make digital recordings of North Central Unit inmates as they read children's books aloud. Each book and recording will be mailed to the child, or sibling of the participating inmate. Warden David White predicts about 200 inmates will take part. The first recordings at the prison will begin in February or March of 2012.

Volunteers are needed to help with fundraising and to make the recordings.

Donations can be sent to The Storybook Project/Calico Rock, PO Box 276, Calico Rock, AR 72519.

To volunteer or for more information, contact Susan Varno, 870-297-4223, svarno@hughes.net . Visit the museum foundation at www.bridgethepast.com/foundation.html.
