The first annual Arkansas Fall Classic squirrel and coon dog competition will be held Oct.15 at the Sharp County Fairgrounds, as a benefit for the New Beginnings Pregnancy Help Center of Ash Flat.

This national competition is sanctioned by the Kemmer Stock Breeders Association (KSBA) as a championship competition promoting the Kemmer strain of Mountain Curs.

Dogs registered with KSBA from Arkansas and several surrounding states will be competing.

The activities include an early-morning squirrel hunt and an evening coon hunt.

Dogs will be taken to the woods in three-dog 'casts' and judged by their ability to locate and tree game according to an established point system.

No firearms or the killing of animals will be involved.

There will be an afternoon bench show where dogs will be judged according to their physical conformation to the breed standards.

This event has been registered and permits obtained from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

A lunch will be available at noon with entertainment provided by the musical group Bona Fide, a local old-time string band.

The public is welcome and all proceeds and donations will go to the New Beginnings Pregnancy Help Center.

The KSBA Arkansas Fall Classic is sponsored by Sportmix dog food available locally at the Tri-County Farm and Ranch and is partially underwritten by the First National Banking Company located in Ash Flat.
