It's time again to show a child who has virtually nothing that someone cares about them. The "Shoebox Ministry" of Operation Christmas Child is an inexpensive way to show a child, or several children, God's love for them.

An informational meeting will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Salem -- which is serving as the area's relay station -- on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. Shoeboxes and other supplies will be available at the meeting.

Core gifts to place in your shoebox are: stuffed toys (the number one request of children), a picture of the person sending them a gift, hard candy (including tootsie rolls this year) placed in a zip lock bag or into a plastic water bottle or cup with a lid, wash cloths, unscented soap in a zip lock bag, toothbrush and toothpaste (the plain kind), pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, socks, underwear, brush, comb, and this year spoons have been added to the list.

The dates and times to bring your completed shoeboxes to Immanuel Baptist are: Nov. 14 -- 10 a.m. to noon; Nov. 15 -- noon to 2 p.m.; Nov. 16 -- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Nov. 17 -- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Nov. 18 -- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Nov. 19 -- 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and Nov. 20 -- 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

For a longer list of accepted items, free cardboard shoe boxes, DVD's, posters and more, contact Carol Bain, Regional Coordinator, at 870-994-2218.
