Gaylord Charles Wassung, 87, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Cherokee Village, Ark., died Oct. 21, 2011, at Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln. He was born in Hardy, Neb., on Aug. 15, 1924, to Charles and Lillian (Burton) Wassung. Gaylord was a U.S. Navy and World War II submarine veteran. He and his wife, Bert, were the original owner/operators of the Harvester Motel. Gaylord also owned and operated Gaylord's Radio and TV Sales and Service. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, Lions and Eagles.

Survivors included his wife of 65 years, Bertha; children and spouses, Douglas and Beverly Wassung, David and Susan Wassung, Diane and Randy Steinhausen and Julie Wassung Roberts and fiancÚ Mike Taylor; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother and spouse, Willard and Norma Wassung; and sister, Geraldine Klein.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Fiedler.

Funeral services were Oct. 23, 2011, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike McDonald officiating. Burial was at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
