An empty bus was involved in a traffic accident Nov. 10 in front of the Highland Square Shopping Center in Highland.

Highland Police Chief Jeremy Stevens said the accident occurred when Judith McGrath, 57, of Evening Shade attempted to make a left turn off Highway 62/412 into the shopping center parking lot. McGrath turned into the path of a Highland School bus driven by Lester Stout of Ash Flat.

The bus was empty at the time of the accident.

The 2006 Chevy LTA McGrath was driving was heavily damaged. Officials at the scene were able to pry the front bumper away from the bus tire in order for it to be driven back to the bus garage.

McGrath was transported by Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service to Fulton County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highland Fire Department, Highland First Responders and the Sharp County Sheriff's Department assisted the Highland Police Department with traffic control during the accident.
