Holiday events abound in area

Despite an economic recession, many free events are planned in the area for Thanksgiving and Christmas.


Mammoth Spring

Mammoth Spring First Baptist Church will have a community Thanksgiving dinner at the Mammoth Spring Fire Station from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. The menu includes turkey, ham, dressing, vegetables, rolls and dessert. Meals can be eaten there, taken out or delivered. For a ride or delivery, call 870-625-3273 or 870-371-0878.


Amazing Grace Fellowship will have a community Thanksgiving dinner at 1 p.m. Nov. 24 in the Thayer High School cafeteria. For information, call 417-264-2522.

Christmas parades


The Thayer Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. The theme is "Lighting Hearts at Christmas." For information, call Laree Rees at 417-264-3265.


The Alton Culture Club will present its annual Christmas parade and Little Mr. and Miss Christmas pageant on Dec. 3. See the pageant contestants on Page 7A in this issue. Activities start at 9:45 a.m. with a choir in the high school gym, followed by the pageant at 10. The parade will start at 11 a.m.


The Koshkonong Parent-Teach Organization will have a Christmas parade on Dec. 10. A pageant crowning will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the parade at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be sold at the senior center. After the parade, Santa will visit with children and pose for photos at the senior center. Mammoth Spring

The Mammoth Spring Area Chamber of Commerce will have a Christmas parade on Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. At 6 p.m. Dec. 9, the chamber will have a tree-lighting ceremony in the Simmons Bank parking lot. For information, call Glenda Pryor at 870-625-7364.

Shop with a Cop

Oregon County law enforcement agencies, along with the Mammoth Spring Police Department will have their annual Shop with a Cop event on Dec. 10. Applications are available at the Thayer police Department and must be submitted by Dec. 4.

Toys for Tots

"A Good Old Country Christmas" show will be presented at the West Plains Civic Center Auditorium at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, and 3 to gather new toys for the Toys for Tots program. Admission is one new, unwrapped toy.

The event includes more than 40 artists and musicians. The toys will be distributed to needy children in Oregon County, as well as Howell and Texas counties. For information, call 417-372-1129.
