Share the Harvest working with local hunters

Friday, December 2, 2011

The annual Share The Harvest program gives Missouri hunters an opportunity to donate deer to be processed and sent to more than 300 Missouri food banks. Last year about 5,700 hunters took deer to food banks, providing more than 300,000 pounds of venison.

The deer meat that is provided by hunters is ground up to make it more versatile for cooking. Donations are always needed. Hunters who wish to participate can take their game to an approved meat processor and let them know how much they wish to donate.

To have an entire deer processed and donated to the Share the Harvest program, the Conservation Federation of Missouri can help pay the processing cost. Call individual meat processing plants ahead of time to see if they participate and what funds are available at that particular location.
