Thayer children injured in icy crash

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Two children and an adult were injured in a pickup rollover on Highway 142 about five miles east of Thayer on Dec. 7. At nearly the same time, several other accidents occurred in the area, including one with a Mammoth Spring school bus, according to authorities. No injuries were reported in the school bus crash.

The one-vehicle rollover happened at 7:20 a.m. when a westbound 2001 Ford F-250 driven by Monica Martin, 47, of Thayer slid on the ice-covered roadway, ran off the left side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned.

Martin sustained moderate injuries as did passenger Gabriel Martin, 10. Passenger Nicklaus Martin, 17, sustained minor injuries. All are from Thayer.

All we wearing seat belts and taken to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.

Oregon County authorities said deputies assisted at seven crashes early on Dec. 7, five of which were on Highway 142. No other injuries were reported.
