Interested groups or individuals have until Jan. 3, 2012, to bid to operate the Thayer License Office.

The Office of Administration recently issued a request for proposal asking for bids to manage the office. The ability for people or groups to bid to run local license offices is part of Gov. Jay Nixon's reformed competitive process that requires the Missouri Department of Revenue to choose office agents that present the best proposals for customer service and financial efficiency.

Ranette Ray, the current agent, will remain the agent while the office is out for bid.

During Fiscal Year 2011 (July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011), the Thayer office conducted 9,748 transactions and generated $32,685 in agent processing fees. The office is located at 151 E. Walnut St. in Thayer near Harp's Grocery. Potential bidders can propose to keep the office at the current address or submit another location in Thayer.

Common transactions at local license offices include renewing or applying for a driver license, renewing or applying for registration on motor vehicles, boats and outboard motors, and applying for titles and paying sales taxes on these units.

Additional information regarding the bidding process can be obtained by calling the Office of Administration at 573-751-2387 or www.moolb.mo.gov.
