If trucking company owner James Rheuark's plan works out as he envisions, downtown Thayer will see some major changes in upcoming months.

Rheuark, of Steele, bought the commercial building owned by Ron Cornelius at 101 Chestnut St., most recently occupied by TCB Cafe and Banquet Room Rheuark plans to re-open the site as a restaurant. He also bought the old billiards hall two doors down, although he has not yet established whether he will open a donut shop or pizza parlor there.

Rheuark, who owns Rheuark Trucking in Rolla, has contracted with a local restaurant manager to oversee daily operations at the restaurant, which is now being painted and renovated.

Rheuark was in town on Saturday, Jan. 7, working in the building and researching history on the old hotel on Front Street, to consider whether the building can be revamped as a bed and breakfast.

Rheuark said he has always liked the town of Thayer and sees potential for increasing business downtown.
