A Mammoth Spring fugitive who led Thayer Police officers on a foot race through town was captured without incident at a Thayer home on Jan. 14.

According to a Thayer Police Department press release, William M. Tibbits Jr., 27, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest by fleeing, driving with a suspended license and felony tampering with a motor vehicle. The vehicle Tibbits allegedly was driving had been reported stolen from a Thayer home.

Tibbits also has active warrants from Mammoth Spring.

Authorities said they received a tip that Tibbits was at Casey's General Store in Thayer.

As officers arrived, they spotted Tibbits driving south on Nettleton Avenue.

When officers attempted to apprehend Tibbits, he allegedly refused to stop. After a short pursuit, Tibbitts fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Thayer officers chased Tibbits into a barn, where he jumped from the loft and ran again as officers entered the barn.

Tibbits allegedly ran into a vacant home and barricaded the door.

Thayer officers entered the home and found Tibbits hiding in a back room, according to the release.

He is being held in the Thayer jail without bond.
