An annual week-long tournament event, hosted at Mountain View/Birch Tree Liberty High School, featuring both junior varsity and varsity team play, came down to three deciding games on Jan. 21.
Thayer's junior varsity squad took home the first-place championship trophy with its win over the JV Licking team.
In the varsity consolation bracket, the Licking Wildcats took home a 76-49 victory over the Alton Comets.
In a contest to determine the third-place outcome, the Thayer Bobcats were challenged by the homestanding Liberty Eagles.
Thayer jumped out to an 18-10 first-quarter lead.
Liberty scored eight un-answered points midway into the second period, to edge within two points of the Bobcats.
It was 29-22, Thayer over Liberty, at the half.
Austin Henry (23) and Ricky Smith (23) dominated the scoring for the Bobcats, who held a one-point advantage, 42-41, at the third-quarter buzzer.
Box out position from Levi Hargrove helped teammates Henry, Smith and Dylan Dennis pull down rebounds and crash the boards for second shot attempts.
Made free throws in the last two minutes sealed the deal, to give the Thayer Bobcats the third-place trophy with the 68-60 win over the Liberty Eagles.
