Virgie Mae Smith, age 86, of Gamaliel, Ark., passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012, in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Mrs. Smith was born February 6, 1925, in Mountain Home, Ark., to Lindsey E. and Margaret "Kate" Kasinger Lance. She married Joe Bill Smith on May 31, 1947 at Mountain Home. She was a lifelong resident of Baxter County, and was a member of the Gamaliel Church of Christ for many years. A homemaker, Mrs. Smith enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and cooking.

She is survived by one son: Joe W. Smith and wife, Linda: Gamaliel; one daughter: Margaret Stafford and husband, Darrel: Gamaliel; one sister: Imogene Dillinger: Happy, Texas; one sister-in-law: Ruth Lance: Mountain Home; four grandchildren: Lance Stafford: Gassville; Brooke Houk and husband, Ronald: Mountain Home; Joe W. Smith II: Pleasanton, Texas; Kimberly Young and husband, Alan: Jonesboro, Ark.; two great-grandchildren: Raquel Elise Houk: Mountain Home; and Aubry Jane Smith: Piggott; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents: Lindsey and Kate Lance; husband: Joe Bill Smith; one brother: Clyde Lance; and two sisters: Eula Roberts and Lena Kytle.
