A Sharp County inmate, Adam Leroy Mathis, working on community service at the Cherokee Village Animal Shelter reportedly walked off from the facility on Feb. 8. Investigators suspect he was picked up in a vehicle driven by his wife Allie Mathis.

Sheriff Mark Counts reports Mathis, a 43-year-old white male who is described as being cleanshaven and bald, about 5-feet, 11-inches in height. He has not been seen since the afternoon of Feb. 8.

Mathis was picked up near Highway 289 in a 1995 maroon colored Nissan car with damage to the driver's side front fender and rear bumper.

Mathis was being held in the Sharp County Detention Center and was performing court ordered community service at the time of his escape from the custody of the overseer of community service.

Counts said the department has since tracked his cell phone and the coordinates show him to be somewhere in Missouri.

He was being held by Sharp County for nonpayment of misdemeanor fines through Cherokee Village court. He also had a felony forgery charge in Dent County, Mo.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Mathis should contact the Sharp County Sheriff's Department at 870-994-7356.

Uhmmm... Got a question. The accompanying photo. Something appears amiss. From the article's description of the suspect:

"...Sheriff Mark Counts reports Mathis, a 43-year-old white male who is described as being cleanshaven and bald..."

Appears to me (course I've some problems with cataracts so...) but anyway if the poor fellow in the picture with the moustache and the full head of hair is supposed to be the guy the Sheriff is looking for I'd be tempted to tell somebody to say to somebody else, "Houston, we've got a problem."
