Southside's offensive plan was pass the ball round the circle until they could rain 3-pointers.
The court was virtually wet with the Lady Southerners' treys as they easily booked a trip to the state tourney, beating the Lady Rebels, 52-25, in the first round of the 4A-East Regional Tournament at Cave City on Feb. 22.
The fourth-seeded Lady Rebs held their own in the first quarter, getting six points from freshman Hope Isaacs and five from senior Sydney Shackelford, but Southside, the one seed from the 2-4A Conference, knocked down five 3-pointers, including three by Lynsey Ellis, to jump out to a 15-11 first period lead.
Highland only got five chances all night at the free throw line, as compared to the Lady Southerners' 18 attempts.
Southside hit five of six in the second quarter to go with four more 3s. A tiring group of Lady Reb shooters struggled, with Britney Bair's trey and a free throw from Leanne Fry accounting for all of their points. Southside led at halftime 32-15.
Highland's only points in the third came on a Shackelford bucket. The Lady Southerners extended their lead to 40-17.
Shackelford and Tabby McNulty had 3-pointers in the final period, and Fry added a basket. Southside went six of nine from the line.
Highland (11-15) was led by Shackelford with 10 points.
Southside was led by Ellis with 11 points and Maggie Carlile added 10.
