David Herron, 44, of Williford was arrested on Feb. 27 for critically injuring his wife, and is being held on $500,000 bond.

April Herron, 32, was found severely beaten in a Sharp County ditch by a passing volunteer fire fighter in the Ozark Acres area.

Herron was found on Acres Road, covered with blood and severely beaten. Sharp County Deputy Shane Russell, who responded to an emergency call, called for Air Evac assistance.

Herron, who suffered life-threatening head injuries, was air lifted to a Springfield hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

A preliminary investigation led to the arrest of her husband, David Herron, 44.

Herron is being held on preliminary charges, as authorities wait to see whether April Herron survives her injuries.

Herron has been unable to talk with investigators about the injuries she suffered or what caused the attack.

District Judge Mark Johnson set David Herron's $500,000 cash-only bond.

At press time, Herron was still incarcerated in the Sharp County Detention Center.
