On March 25, 2012, the children of Wayne and Gena Hill of Highland will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house at their residence, 71 Wanda Circle, Highland. All of their friends and family are invited to attend and congratulate them.
Wayne and Gena were married in Little Rock, Ark., on Dec 30, 1946. They have four children, 12 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. They currently reside in Highland.
Gena (Buchanan) Hill was born on Feb 18, 1928, on the family farm just north of Center, Ark., the oldest daughter of Marshall and Minnie Buchanan.
Upon graduating from Ash Flat High School, she attended Chilicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo., where she met her future husband.
Wayne Hill was born in Tilatoba, Miss., on Dec 9, 1921. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the US Navy at the beginning of World War II and served in the Marine Corp in the South Pacific, including on Guadalcanal. At the end of the war, he attended Tulane University in New Orleans and graduated with an accounting degree.
He spent his career working for oil companies, primarily Amoco (now BP). He retired around 1985 and moved to the local area with Gena to take care of her elderly parents.
