Peggy Boren honored

Sunday, March 25, 2012

State Rep. Steve Cookson, left, presents Thayer resident Gene Boren with a Missouri House Resolution on March 14 at Fun and Friends Senior Center in Thayer to honor Boren's wife, Peggy Boren, for her faithful service to the community. Peggy Boren died in January at age 78. The Borens were married 56 years. Every table in the senior center was occupied during the noontime ceremony. Cookson, a longtime family friend, called Peggy Boren a "person of unbound vision," who was active in many community endeavors. "Peggy was a really grand lady who was very willing to step forward and help her neighbors," Cookson said. Among other honors during her lifetime, Peggy Boren was named the Thayer Spring Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
