Horse rescued from Kankey farm euthanized

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Uno, the most well known of 116 horses seized from a Viola farm in December of 2010, has been euthanized after months of treatment for an improperly healed fracture and pain issues. Photos of Uno, a skinny palomino, were used by the ASPCA and Humane Society in a national campaign to raise money for the rescue effort -- which has cost more than $750,000. Most of the horses have been adopted or placed with equine rescue groups, but 27 remain in ASPCA custody. Rodney Kankey still faces animal cruelty charges for failing to properly care for the horses.

In honor of Uno, I hope the judge in this case finds swift justice. Just think if you or I were in Uno's shoes and Rodney Kankey was your owner and caregiver, hmmm....Yea, I didn't think so. Too hard of a thought for some people. Kudos to the ASPCA in this case. Uno may be gone but never forget this cause. So many have helped and a special THANK YOU goes to them, you know who you are.
