Once again, Viola was the dominant force in the 1A-2 West softball and baseball tournaments at Norfork this past week.
The Lady Longhorns claimed their fifth straight district championship with a 1-0 shutout of Calico Rock, while the Longhorns earned another trophy for their case with a 10-0 pounding of the host team.
On the softball diamond, the Lady Horns knocked off the Lady Pirates for the fifth straight time in the district finals, with defense taking center stage.
Leslie Shrable scored the game's only run in the first inning, coming home thanks to an RBI-hit by Kiersten Moore.
After that, it was all defense as neither side would dent the scoreboard again.
Moore was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits while fanning nine.
Karli Gillihan took the loss for Calico Rock, allowing nine hits while fanning two.
She also had two hits for the Lady Pirates.
At the dish for Viola, Moore had three hits, with Shrable and Michaela Thompson adding two apiece.
On the baseball diamond, Dolan Johnston tossed a no-hitter for the Horns in their 10-run rout of Norfork.
Johnston allowed only one baserunner, on a walk, in the five-inning game, and he retired 15 hitters in a row.
Austin Robbins had two hits and three ribbies for the Horns, while Blane Sanders and Clay Shrable drove in three runs apiece for Viola.
