Mammoth Spring advances in district tourney

Mammoth Spring's softball and baseball teams both advanced out of the semi-finals in the 1A-2 East District Tournament with big wins April 28 at the Cougar Sports Complex in Brockwell.

The Lady Bears shut out Sloan-Hendrix 10-0, as Alex Taylor struck out eight Lady Greyhounds in five innings of work.

At the plate, she racked up three hits for Mammoth Spring.

On the baseball diamond, the Bears knokced off the host team 10-1.

Josh Cathey picked up the win on the mound for the Bears, striking out six while allowing seven hits.

Wayne Coffey powered Mammoth Spring with three hits and three RBIs, while Collin Powell drove in two on three hits.

Preston Harmon took the loss for Izard County, despite fanning 16 batters. He gave up eight hits in the game. Harmon had an RBI on two hits for the Cougars, while Zack Logan also had a pair of hits.
