The Izard County Lady Cougars came up a step short in their quest for a trip to Fayetteville, and a chance to play for a Class 1A state softball title.
Izard County (32-8) fell to the Taylor Tigers 5-3 in the state semi-finals May 12 in Bradley.
The game was tied at 2-all after two innings, when the Lady Cougars moved on top with a run in the top of the fourth. Taylor responded with a pair of runs in the home-half of the fourth, and added another one in the sixth for the victory.
Stephanie Shrable had three hits, including a homer and an RBI for the Lady Cougars.
Hailey Hall also homered and drove in two runs.
Molly Taylor was saddled with the loss for Izard County, striking out five while issuing four walks.
In the first round May 10, the Lady Cougars passed by West Side-Greers Ferry 2-0.
Taylor took the win in the circle, giving up four hits while fanning five and walking one.
Kenzie Brewer had an RBI for the Lady Cougars, while Shrable ripped a homer in the sixth inning for Izard County. Kaydie Campbell added two hits for the Lady Cougars.
