Cougars lose to Hornets

The Izard County Cougars saw their baseball season come to a close with a 4-2 loss to South Side Bee Branch in the opening round of the Class 1A State Tournament in Taylor, May 10.

Preston Harmon took the loss on the mound for Izard County (11-12), striking out seven while giving up four hits.

South Side posted a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars broke the ice with a run in the top of the sixth, before the Hornets struck for another run in the home-half of the sixth.

Izard County wrapped up the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh, but South Side held on for the two-run victory.

At the plate, Harmon had a pair of hits, while Trenton Hatman had an RBI for Izard County.
