The Viola Lady Longhorns are once again ready to play on the big stage, taking another shot at a Class 1A state softball title.

The Lady Horns (31-2) knocked off South Side Bee Branch in the state semi-final round, May 12, in Bradley to earn a spot in the championship game.

Viola will face Taylor May 18 at 7 p.m. at Bogel Park on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

The Lady Longhorns also played in the state title game in 2006, falling to Lockesburg and again in 2010, when they were edged by Armorel.

In the quarterfinals May 11, Viola pushed past the host team, the Bradley Lady Bears, 6-3.

Tied 3-all after four innings of action, Viola posted one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn a trip to the semis.

Dockins, Shrable and Moore all doubled in the bottom of the first inning, while Thompson ripped an RBI-single, to give Viola a 3-1 lead.

Bradley crossed the plate twice in the top of the third to knot things at 3-all.

But in the fifth, Thompson drove in Dockins with a single, while Shrable smacked an RBI-double and Halee Connors batted in a run in the sixth to lift the Lady Longhorns to a 6-3 victory.

Moore struck out nine en route to the win.

In the opening round May 10, Viola, the Class 1A Region 2 champions, smashed Weiner 12-0.

The Lady Longhorns scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Moore took the win, giving up just three hits while fanning seven.
