On Friday, June 1, Areawide Media's subscription papers will join hundreds of newspapers across the country- from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Sun-Times, Boston Globe, Baxter Bulletin, Batesville Guard and dozens of other smaller newspapers -- in charging for access to online content.
On June 1, The South Missourian News, The Villager Journal and The News will launch a metered pay system for our website. The good news is that print subscribers will continue to receive unlimited premium access to www.areawidenews.com as part of their basic subscription. We will be launching a new mobile application for the iPhone, as well as other mobile products, which will be included at no additional charge to print subscribers. To buy all of The South Missourian News, The Villager Journal and The News digital products a la carte, without also being a print subscriber, would nearly double the print price.
In other words, subscribing to The South Missourian News, The Villager Journal and The News which includes many features unavailable online -- like coupons, pre-print inserts, weekly sports pages, a TV guide, columnists and much more -- just became even more valuable.
To gain premium access, however, print subscribers must register at www.areawidenews.com/access or call 1-800-444-4812. By doing so, not only will you be able to access all premium content on Areawidenews.com whenever you want -- from breaking news to photo galleries to blogs to webcasting events -- but you will be able to access it however you want; from the main website to the mobile web on your smartphone.
If you are not a mail delivery subscriber you will have free access to a limited number of articles each month. If you exceed the limit, you will be asked to become a digital or print subscriber. For your convenience Areawide is also offering a Full Digital Access option without mail delivery of the print edition.
