Thayer Boys chosen to attend Boys State

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Doyle Fink, Adjutant of Thayer American Legion Post 344 announced that Thayer High School Juniors Nicklaus Martin and Oren Redus have been selected to attend the 72nd session of the American Legion Missouri Boys State. The program will be held June 11-18 on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Established in 1938, Missouri Boys State is a statewide leadership and citizenship training program developed for high school juniors who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their schools. During the eight-day program, about 1,000 participants will experience government through a hands on learning approach, enhance their leadership skills and develop an understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

By completing the Missouri Boys State Program, the students become eligible for over $2,000,000 in college scholarships from about 30 Missouri colleges and universities. Participants who pass an exam at the end of the program may become eligible for two or three hours of credit from the University of Central Missouri. Two participants will be chosen to attend Boys Nation in Washington D.C. in July.

Each student has been chosen for Boys State by a civic group, business or individual. Missouri Boys State thanks the Thayer-Mammoth Spring Rotary and Thayer American Legion Post 344 for serving as local sponsors.
