The fish fry is held to benefit the Myrtle Volunteer Fire Department, so the price paid for a plate of fish, or chicken, goes towards gas for the fire trucks, and insurance. The annual fish fry is one of the main sources of income for the fire department. Since Myrtle residents are not charged a monthly fee for fire department services, the public support pays off in the long run.
Oregon County Southern District Commissioner John Wrenfrow and Sherriff George Underwood were volunteer fish fryers along with others from around the community who pitched in. Fire Chief Carroll Garrison thanked everyone who came out in support of the Myrtle Fire Department.
