MASH Camp offered to students with interest in health care

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Area students interested in a career in the medical field can have a hand-on learning experience at M*A*S*H Camp, June 25 and 26 at the Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) Parkway Education Center.

The two-day M*A*S*H Camp, which stands for Missouri AHEC Science and Health Camp, is a collaborative effort between OMC, the Southeastern Missouri Area Health Education Center (AHEC), and A.T. Stills University/Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. The event is open to students in ninth through 12th grades. There is no fee for the camp but pre-registration is required and space is limited. For more information or to register, contact the OMC Education Department at 417-257-6793.

During the camp, students will discover career opportunities in the areas of medicine, health and science, including pharmacy, lab, and physical, occupational and speech therapy. They will also have the opportunity to practice skills and techniques used by medical professionals.

"This camp is a great opportunity for students who already have an interest in health care careers to see if this field is right for them," said Erin Hicks, Interim Education Manager. "It also gives students a chance to learn about the health care professions that are available locally. There is a growing need for health care professionals and there are a wide variety of careers available in health care to suite those with many different interests."
