Alton Senior Center Fish Fry draws huge crowd

Thursday, June 14, 2012

The Alton Senior Citizens' Center held its "Main Event" fundraiser on June 2. The center usually does a "Miles for Meals Walk-a-Thon," but decided to try something different this year with a fish fry and singing.

Sheriff George Underwood and friends sponsored the fish fry by providing and cooking the meal.

Jeff Holman and friends, Holly Johannsen and Jerry Chewning, were local volunteers present to sing for the guests.

Pam Simpson, center administrator, said "The amount of people that showed up was unbelievable. Everyone pitched in to help, and it was totally shocking to see the turn out of the public."

Tickets were available for purchase before the "Main Event," but Simpson did not foresee the amount of people that attended. "There were people lined up to the road," said Simpson about the crowd.

She was really proud of the community for giving back and showing their support of the Alton Senior Citizens.

The "Main Event" brought in over $2500 for the Alton Senior Center. The money raised is used specifically for the meals program at the center.
